The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
I’ve heard it said, “Tell God that you want Him to be a part of your life, that you want Him to influence all your decisions!” Each time that goes into my ears, I find myself cringing; but why? It’s not a bad thing to ask for, right?
Well, if you think about it, God is not simply a mere part of your life — He IS your life.
Jesus didn’t come to add to our lives, but give us life.
He’s not about offering His opinion, hoping that it takes root, therefore giving us another perspective on how good life could be. No — He’s God. He is life; we are not. That’s why He came, and that’s why you’re breathing right now.
The idea that He can be a part of your life is actually irrelevant, and even dangerous, because without Him breathing life into your lungs, you would otherwise have no clue or opinion about the matter.
Dead people don’t care about things, and especially don’t ask for things.
For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
We eliminate so many great aspects of our faith that God intended for us to rejoice in when we believe that He is only a part of our “everything”, as if we had anything apart from Him.
He is the vine that gives life, and gives it to the full — why would we settle for less?
