As a born and raised Texan, I spent the first 22 years of my life having meat and dairy and processed foods as a steady part of my daily diet. August of 2017, that changed for the better.
I began weaning myself off of most/all meats and, for the most part, dairy. But after watching a few documentaries and seeing positive results from friends who had gone full blown plant-based, I was convinced and decided to stop straddling the fence.
I had begun reading studies and listening to podcasts and watching videos about people my age being diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes (types 1 & 2), and other ailments and I realized that waiting until I was in my thirties to “get healthy” was not a wise or viable option. So, I took the reins at 22 and have already seen massive changes and improvements, even though I had always considered myself somewhat healthy. A variety of illnesses run in my extended family, and I have chosen to not let that 10% of genetic sickness define me. I want a lifestyle that induces life, fullness, and health— not disease, exhaustion, and physical pain.
So, join me! I don’t have all the answers and neither does any doctor, but it’s a journey. And journeys are all about learning and growing and discovery.
