Foodie Finds

This page is dedicated to all the things my tastebuds delight in around the world.

Bon Appétit!

OCTOBER 1 — FASSBENDER & RAUSCH CHOCOLATE CAFE

This. Salad. Oh. My. Gosh. Who knew chocolate and beef would be such a good combo? The Roh Gebeizter Rindfleisch-Salat did not disappoint. Beautifully displayed, lightly dressed with coriander seasoning, tossed with various veggies and mango chunks, tender beef and, of course, chocolate. I’d love to spend a day experimenting in the savory kitchen with some chocolatier chefs! These flavors blew me away.

Then desert. I (thoroughly) enjoyed the Almond, Nut and Caramel Symphony. Held together by a chocolate cage, filled with sponge cake, mousse, and then topped with caramel and hazelnuts, my tastebuds were so pleased!

This is real chocolate – and it smelled so good! (Beneath the cafe, there is a store)

Sadly, I wasn’t able to get too many pictures of the other sculptures of the Titanic, the Berlin TV Tower, and more. But the Keiser Wilhelm was pretty awesome!

SEPTEMBER 24 — THE BARN ROASTERY

This place was the coolest. As you walk in you’re kindly welcomed by a beautiful aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. I enjoyed an excellent Guatemalan ‘spro shot with 3 oz. of steamed milk – tastebud heaven! My friends ordered a flight of the same Guatemalan roast – ‘spro shot, ‘spro shot with 3 oz. of steamed milk, and an Aeropress. The Aeropress had a certain earthy taste to it, reminding me of a classic Indonesian roast. We were all extremely pleased with our pours and will definitely be back for more!

SEPTEMBER 20 — FIVE ELEPHANT COFFEE ROASTERS

A foodie friend and I toured around Kreuzberg on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Word to the wise – if you are wanting to peacefully enjoy your coffee and treats at Five Elephant, don’t go on a Sunday afternoon. Ha, this place was seriously packed! But there was no question as to why. My Kamwangi AA, Kenya pour over was absolutely heavenly. I could drink it like water; smooth and light, but rich and deep with layers of nut and cherry flavors. My friend’s Ethiopian pour was bright and bursting with citrus notes.

COM Á

This mojito was the best I’ve ever had. Perfect balance of lime and mint, and the best white rum I’ve tasted yet. The presentation was also stunning!

Couldn’t get enough of the atmosphere!

And then the food came! Possibly the best sushi I’ve ever had. You could tell how fresh the fish was – I could have kept eating and eating and eating! (Prices were also extremely reasonable.)

STIEGE

We then happened upon this incredibly quaint and fun Italian restaurant!

The tiramisu had the greatest texture and perfect balance of liquor and sweetness. Highly recommend it!

We also enjoyed possibly the biggest glass of wine ever! It was so worth it. If you are searching for an approachable red wine, Lambrusco is what you want! Had a certain spark on the front end, but went down so smoothly.

SEPTEMBER 18 — DIE KAFFEENAUTEN

Had no idea about this cute hole in the wall shop, but some friends are seriously skilled at hunting them down! Was so pleased by their pastries & capps & pour overs.

I just find this so funny. Apparently this is what Germany thinks of America. Ha, I guess they’re not totally off!

FATHER CARPENTER COFFEE BREWERS

This shop is located in a tucked away plaza that I found so cute!

A friend of mine unknowingly ordered a flight, but it turned out great because we got to try everything! My friends and I were all very impressed by our drinks. Very cute shop and talented baristas.

I ordered a double capp, which is a normal cappuccino with an extra shot added…the barista responded with, “So, a flat white.”….Apparently at this shop, a double capp is considered a flat white. Yikes. (Just don’t tell my coworkers back home!) It did taste delicious, though!

SEPTEMBER 17 — BONANZA COFFEE HEROES

First of all, let’s just talk about the freakin’ awesome atmosphere of this place. I mean, come on . Perfect balance of cozy and clean.

Now for the coffee — or as I like to call it, Heaven in a cup. The barista had not yet dialed in the beans for pour overs yet, so he recommended batch brew. I was more than pleasantly surprised! Extremely smooth, very approachable, but could still pick out the nutty and cherry notes as it cooled. I was amazed! My friend’s latte was steamed and poured to perfection! These people know what they’re doing…I guess that’s why they call themselves heroes.

THE BARN

Ah, the Barn. Was so impressed by their selection of sandwiches; simple but delicious! My cappuccino’s milk texture & temperature & taste couldn’t have been better. A great velvet layer on top, and naturally sweet flavor beneath. Strongly recommend this place!

SEPTEMBER 16 — CURRY WURST (BENEATH ZEHLENDORF TRAIN STATION)

When I think of Berlin I think of an over cast, chilly day, paired with the sweet but savory taste of crispy, hot fries with fried wurst, and dusted curry powder on top. Mmm. Too good.

SEPTEMBER 15 — HANS IM GLÜCK

The Wilde Westen (Wild West) was nothing short of pure awesomeness. It’s a risky thing to get a burger in Europe, but this was surprisingly so satisfying to my American mouth! The flavor of the hay milk cheese paired with a rich, genuine BBQ sauce was a match made in heaven.
